So tell us a bit about yourself!

I am originally a Kansan (the accent comes out after a few beers!) but lived in 6 different countries growing up, eventually settling in this awesome city. I love lifting weights, intense physical exercise and testing my limits, although it has to be completely unrelated to running, which I have never found the love for. Recently, I have finally admitted to myself (and Alyssa) that I am a wellness nut, with Reiki level 2 certification, mindfulness meditation training and a rolling cart full of goodies to add into smoothies and various mushroom teas.

Favorite workout?

Either a good lifting session on my own or, lately, a restorative/meditative stretch. I realize these are polar opposites, but have recently learned that they are equally important.

Favorite wellness practice?

Not sure if it’s a proper ‘practice’  but I really love curling up with my cat, a good book, and a cup of tea. Something about the reading ritual really relaxes and resets my brain.

What do you love about the Toronto wellness scene?

Honestly, I love the people. Every studio we have the privilege of stepping into seems to be owned by incredible, strong men or women who really believe in what they are doing and what to help people along their fitness journeys, whether its a calming yoga or pilates studio or more high energy spinning studio or stacked weight training/athletic performance gym. We are so lucky to have such an incredible community and I feel blessed to be a small part of it.

So tell us a bit about yourself!

I’m a born-and-raised New Yorker who finally left the big city in 2015, traveled the world for a year, and moved to Toronto in 2016. I have a wildly inaccurate understanding of my physical limitations: I’ve done an Ironman, six marathons, multiple strongman competitions, and I had a brief career in roller derby (Jersey City Bridge & Pummel 4eva). I also have a full-on hippie side: Grateful Dead shows in the early 90s, a stash of crystals that would make a shaman jealous, and a constant need to be barefoot whenever possible.

Favorite workout?

Toss-up between strongman training and running. Running is my first love and there’s nothing like lacing up and discovering a new path. But the feeling you get hoisting atlas stones or walking with a 300lb yoke on your back? That’s life-changing.

Favorite wellness practice?

Meditation and earthing, sometimes together. I came to mediation in 2016 and have been hooked since, seeking out group meditations or practicing solo. And I love that walking barefoot in the grass has a trendy name now.

What do you love about the Toronto wellness scene?

I love that it’s coming into its own. The fact that you can find daily group meditations, hit up events focusing on different wellness practices, easily find all-natural beauty products in a gorgeous boutique setting, try any niche workout you want, and do it all in an ever-growing community of like-minded wellness-lovers is beyond inspiring.
