The Power of Positive Thinking: 5 Ways to Shift Your Mindset 

At Well TO Do we spend a lot of time exploring about the power of positive thinking. Which is why we’re so thrilled to have Adrienne Enns join us again to share her wisdom on how to shift your mindset from focusing on the negative to the positive. 

Have you ever paused to notice the kinds of thoughts have taken hold of your mind? Or spent time paying attention to where your mind is focusing all of its energy?

Often times, the brain is in full defensive mode reacting to the daily onslaught of external stimuli.  It’s doing its job, trying to keep us safe. But, those protective measures can prevent us from being open to new ways of thinking and the full range of possibilities available to us. 

If we put our attention into what we’re lacking, that’s a lot of energy going into that negative mindset. It brings us further into feeling like we’re not enough. And if we spend time thinking about our limits and everything that is negative in our lives, we will live that reality. We will continue to see our limits and bump into them.

But, what if we want to go out there beyond our limits?  What if we want to create something incredible? That definitely sounds more interesting and exciting. Let’s put our attention there. We may be turtle stepping our way toward what may feel like a far-fetched goal but, our energy and positive thinking is moving us in the right direction.

Here are some questions to ask yourself:

  • What kind of life do I want to create?
  • What’s important to me?
  • What kind of people do I want to surround myself with?
  • What goals am I working towards?
  • Could this event/experience/relationship be happening for me?

When we decide where our attention is going to go (instead of the negative default command centre) we are empowered to notice what’s going on, evaluate things and course correct. We start to live in alignment with our greatness. When we connect with what’s possible, opportunities will begin to show up for us.

Gratitude is a great place to start. When we are grateful for all that we already have, we create feelings of love, appreciate and abundance. What can we be grateful for in any given moment? By putting our energy into gratitude, by focusing on positive thinking, we may find that the universe honors our acknowledgement of abundance and it will show up even more. I invite you to test this theory.

Does this mean we will never be frustrated, upset or disappointed? Of course not. Those are all part of our growing pains. But, if we decide to start looking at things as happening for us, instead of to us, we become empowered to learn, transform and make new choices.

After all, you are not your thoughts. You are much greater than they are. In fact, sometimes, your thoughts aren’t even true. Question your thoughts, especially the ones that cause you pain.  Explore creating new thoughts, empowering thoughts and put your attention and energy there. I can guarantee, the results will surprise and delight you.
